Splitting a room, closing off a space or making a new doorway starts with the studwork, and if that isn't square and plumb everything that follows fights it. I set out from the existing walls and floor, frame the wall with proper noggins and fixings, and line the door opening so the door hangs true afterwards.
First fix runs alongside the other trades, so I work to the electrician's and plasterer's timings and leave everything ready for them.
